Biography: Otto Baumberger was born in 1889 in Zurich, Switzerland and died in 1961 in Weiningen, Switzerland. He studied art at the Applied Arts School in Zurich and the Munich Academy. Baumberger designed his first posters at the age of 22, following after the great Swiss poster designer, Theophile Steinlen. He later became a professor of lithography at the Applied Arts School and Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich. Baumberger introduced the notion of the "object poster," expressing the poster's message through the object depicted, reducing the use of text to a minimum or eliminating it. Other notable Swiss poster designers include Eugene Grasset, Charles Loupot, and Emil Cardinaux. Click any thumbnail to view a larger version or make a purchase.
