Biography: Geo Ham was born as Georges Hamel in 1900 in Lavelle (Mayenne), France, and died in 1972. He was fascinated with early race cars from the age of 11 and eventually became a part-time race car driver, which added to the realism of Ham's depictions of historic racing cars and motorcycles.
Ham studied art at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. His work was widely commissioned by automotive catalog and magazine publishers. While best known for his poster designs of racing cars in the Grand Prix of Monaco, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and other classic European racing circuits, Ham also designed posters and illustrations depicting airplanes and motorcycles.
