Color Charts and Resources
With CSS, you can assign both foreground and background colors to any element. If you want to go beyond the 16 standard keyword color names, you've got to use numerical RGB color codes, using hexadecimal, decimal, or percentage RGB color values. Following are links to charts and other resources that can help make finding the right color a snap:
- The Hex Color Guide. Has table of hex codes for different colors.
- Weber "Color" Chart by Ray Weber. A chart of hex values displayed in their resulting colors.
- RGB Hex Triplet Color Chart by Doug Jacobson. Color chart is a GIF file that can be downloaded. For more links to color/hexadecimal resources, visit Doug's RGB Color Charts page.
- The Color Specifier for Netscape by HYPE Electazine. Lists the colors and their ASCII and Hex RGB values, with a link from each color name to a page using it as a background color.
- ColorMaker by Sam Choukri. Point and click to specify colors for the background, text, and links, then specify a web page, and see the new colors applied to the page.
- Victor Engel's No Dither Netscape Color Palette. Strategies and provides color chart for getting best color display results in Netscape Navigator.
- The Joy of Hex (Get Hexed!) by Pequod. Submit RGB decimal values for background, text, and links to return RGB hex codes displayed in the colors you specified.
- Browser Safe Colors: Interactive Text/Background Color Evaluation. Displays all of the colors, along with their hexadecimal code values, that are included in the "browser safe" (aka "Netscape") color palette. Select a text color and a background color to see what they'll look like together in a web page. The hexadecimal value is displayed for each color. A hex-decimal conversion table is included.
