Just how addled must someone be
to spend their time writing poetry?
Everyone knows writing verse doesn't pay;
can't you find something else to do with
   your day?

Once you could get a girl to go for it
by claiming to be a vagabond poet.
These days she'll just call you a fob
and tell you to go get a real job.

To ensure your success in any endeavor,
don't use verse in any way as a lever.
To be happy forever, stick strictly to prose,
and avoid getting stuck on where the next
   verse goes...
