Vintage Golf Posters have been frequently created by vintage poster designers. Various forms of the game of golf date back to at least the 1400s, although the modern game is generally considered to be a Scottish invention. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews was formed in 1754, although golf had been played there going back to the early 1600s. It wasn't until the late 19th century that golf clubs were established outside of Scotland and England. The first open tournament, the British Open, was held in 1860 in Scotland. The expansion of British railroads, such as LNER, LMS, North British Railway, and Great Eastern Railway, to major golf courses in England and Scotland helped to popularize the sport. The U.S. Open was first held in 1895. Included here you will find vintage designs by Roger Broders, Ludwig Hohlwein, Leonetto Cappiello, Tom Purvis, Henry Gawthorn, Edward Penfield, and other well-known vintage designers.
