Biography: Georges S. Dorival was born in 1879 in Paris, France, and died in 1968. He studied art at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris from 1899 to 1901, after which he pursued a career in graphic design. He is best known for his vintage poster designs, signed "Geo Dorival", from 1910 until the start of World War I, featuring Venice, Cote d'Azur, Mont Blanc, Heyeres, Brittany, and other tourist travel destinations, as well as the railroads, such as the Chemins de Fer de l'Etat, that carried travelers to them. During the war, he helped promote various organizations, such as the French Red Cross and the YMCA. After the war, he married and worked at L'Art et la Mode ("Art & Fashion"), a review owned by his father-in-law, becoming its director in 1923. Although he designed fewer posters after the war than before, due to focusing on other business concerns, what his best known and appreciated poster design, an advertisement for the Mont Blanc tramway, dates from 1928.
