Biography: Franz Lenhart was born at Bad Haring, near Kufstein, in Austria, in 1898. His father was an engineer. Following World War I, the South Tyrol region was ceded from Austria to Italy. He studied art at the Art Academy of Venice, and later studied engraving at Florence. In 1922 he moved to the town of Merano, where he he obtained a post as a teacher of drawing at the Technical Institute.
Lenhart is best known for his travel and skiing posters he designed for clients in Merano, Bolzano, and Cortina in the Alps of the South Tyrol region of northern Italy. From 1955 until his death at the age of 94 in 1992, he turned away from doing graphics works and returned to fine art painting.
