Biography: Georges Braque was born in 1882 in Argenteuil-sur-Seine, France, and died in 1963 in Paris. He studied art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre. Originally influenced by the Impressionists and the Fauvists, he is best known for founding, along with Pablo Picasso, the Cubism school of painting, the primary inspiration for which was Paul Cezanne. After serving in World War I, in which he was gravely wounded, Braque moved to the Normandy coastline and painted in a less formal and more personal style, often working in the still life genre, frequently utilizing collage, with simpler forms and brighter colors.
Another important Cubist artist was Juan Gris. Artists directly influenced by Cubism included Fernand Leger, Robert Delauney, and Marcel Duchamp, Click any thumbnail to view a larger version or make a purchase.
